Our Tours in the Cambrian Mountains. Mid Wales.

"Discover the Wild Tranquility"

A Land Rover experience into the Cambrian Mountains and valleys near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion's Uplands.

The best tours are a whole day out, but a morning or afternoon half-day can cover a good area too.

We also offer a shorter 2 hour trip, but be aware - the time flies by!

Our aim is to show you places you might not have found and to help you discover places you will want to explore more yourselves.

Every tour is exclusive for you.

We can take up to 6 people.

Look at the examples below and get in touch.

1. Picturesque Hinterland

Half day From:

Wales' best kept secrets.

Our number 1 tour to introduce you to our area;

North Ceredigion's Uplands.

Discover steep sided valleys near Aberystwyth, on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains.

Following in the footsteps of artists, poets and writers who came to marvel at the rugged landscape when mid Wales was at the heart of the ‘Picturesque movement’ in the 18th Century.

A forgotten country estate, steep back roads and rough tracks lead to breath-taking views. Remote lakes, isolated farmsteads, Red Kites overhead, hanging oak woodland with Redstarts and Pied flycatchers, forestry and open moorland.

Half day, Full day, or 2 hours.

4. Wilderness adventure.

Half day From:

Reaching parts others dont! "Off Road".

Following a selection of rough tracks in the wilderness of the Ceredigion Uplands, comparable to the Scottish Highlands, passing several small lakes, a large reservoir and ruined farms with astonishing views to the south and west.

Tours start in Devils Bridge or from your accommodation.

Half day or Full day.

7. Cardiganshire's Silver-Lead Mines.

Half day From:

Over 100 old Silver-Lead mines in north Ceredigion employed as many as 5,000 miners and their families in the 1860s. The mining ended long ago but the spoil heaps and ruined  buildings are still significant features on the landscape.

Combine a Visit to the Silver Mountain Experience with a tour of the surrounding area.

On most of our tours we talk about the mining heritage of the area and try to shed a different light upon the remains. Tours can feature a selection of mine sites, miners cottages, chapels and the small lakes created to supply the mines with water to power their pumps and machinery.

Half day or full day

2. Elan Valley Reservoirs

The 'Lake District' in the Cambrian Mountains.

In The Elan and Claerwen valleys, 5 large reservoirs were built in the 1890's - 1900's and 1940's to supply water to the Midlands of England.

Ingenious Victorian engineering set in dramatic Welsh landscapes. Wooded valley sides, high open moorland, the reservoirs form the 'Lake District' of mid Wales.

Start in Devils Bridge or Rhayader for a half day or from your accommodation for a full day.

For a full day trip, this tour can easily be combined with Tour 1 or 3.

Half day or Full day

Climbing high across open moorland, plunging into the deep valleys feeding the long fingers of the Llyn Brianne reservoir and passing  through forest.
